Larr Kelly

I have worked in both black and white and in color, but with the conversion to digital, my work has been chiefly in color. My strength lies in my eye, frequently finding interest in patterns and details in natural and built environments. My sources for images are widespread and greatly augmented by my love of travel. My images encompass the world's contrasts, colors, energies, and vibrations. I am influenced by modern abstract art, pop art, and 1960s psychedelia, and I attempt to incorporate similar aesthetics in my work. In my images, I strive to capture the beautiful interplay of light, shadow, color, and line, creating the patterns and details around us on both micro and macro levels. I often amplify the vibrational quality created by such interplay through the effects available through editing software, primarily Photoshop.

I am inspired by Wassily Kandinsky's theory that abstract art, through colors, shapes, and lines, reflects the inner vibrations of the soul. Whether the source is natural or man-made, I believe that my best images begin with a connection between the vibration of what I am shooting and my inner vibration. I hope a viewer can sense this vibration and get a feeling from an image besides seeing it.

The images I create reflect specific vibrations. Some are high energy, and some are quiet energy. Different images will do better in certain settings, depending on whether it is a quiet space or an active space. In all of the images I create, however, I attempt to create something of beauty that captures my vision and will be something for the viewer to see, feel, and enjoy.
